Add a Crypto Checkout to Any Website

No backend, no merchant account, no KYC. Just a wallet address, a payment link, and a way to verify the transfer on-chain.

Why a static crypto checkout is enough

Most "accept crypto" tutorials immediately push you toward a payment processor: a dashboard, an API key, webhooks, and often KYC. But if you sell a digital file, a template, or a license, you don't need any of that. A crypto checkout is just three things:

  1. A destination wallet address (where the money goes).
  2. A payment request the customer can click (an EIP-681 link or a QR code).
  3. A way to confirm the payment arrived — which you can do by reading the blockchain, no server required.

That's it. You can host the whole thing on GitHub Pages, a static host, or even a single HTML file. No database, no secrets, no monthly fee.

Step 1 — Pick your receiving address

Use a wallet you control. For an EVM chain (Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, BNB Chain) the address looks like this:

0x9a90Ea1Ee894f92b1c1a8B9d9730A73ac051828e

Receive USDC, USDT or ETH on any of those chains. The same address works across all EVM chains, so you don't need a separate one per network.

Step 2 — Build a click-to-pay link (EIP-681)

EIP-681 is the open standard for crypto payment requests. It encodes chain, token, recipient and amount into a single link your customer's wallet opens. For a 15 USDC payment on Ethereum Mainnet:

ethereum:0x9a90Ea1Ee894f92b1c1a8B9d9730A73ac051828e?value=15e6&token=0xA0b86991c6218b36c1d19D4a2e9Eb0cE3606eB48

On a base layer (native ETH) you drop the token param and express value in wei:

ethereum:0x9a90Ea1Ee894f92b1c1a8B9d9730A73ac051828e?value=15000000000000000

Render that as a QR code and a button, and a customer paying you is one tap away.

Step 3 — Verify the payment on-chain (no backend)

You don't need a server to know you got paid. After the customer sends, they hand you the transaction hash. You (or a tiny script) can read it back from a public RPC:

// Read a transfer event for your address on a public RPC
const url = "https://ethereum-rpc.publicnode.com";
const tx = await fetch(url, {method:"POST", headers:{"Content-Type":"application/json"},
  body: JSON.stringify({jsonrpc:"2.0",id:1,method:"eth_getTransactionByHash",
  params:[TX_HASH]})}).then(r=>r.json());
// Check tx.to === your address and value >= expected amount

For stablecoins you check the ERC-20 Transfer event instead of value. Public RPCs like publicnode are keyless and free for light verification — perfect for a solo seller doing a handful of checks a day.

Confirm the token contract matches the real USDC/USDT on that chain (each chain has its own contract address), and that the amount and your address are correct before releasing the product.

Step 4 — Put it together

A minimal static checkout page is: a product card, a "Pay 15 USDC" button that opens the EIP-681 link, a field for the customer to paste their tx hash, and a verify button that queries a public RPC. Everything runs in the browser. No keys, no backend, no KYC.

That's the entire mechanic behind a working crypto storefront. The hard parts — exact contract addresses per chain, a clean UI, and a robust verifier — are what takes time to get right.

Common mistakes to avoid

When to graduate to a processor

A static checkout is ideal up to maybe a few dozen sales a month. Past that, you may want automated fulfillment and refunds — but for most indie makers selling templates, scripts, or prompts, the no-backend approach is faster to ship and cheaper to run. Start simple, prove demand, then add tooling only if it pays for itself.

This is educational, not financial or legal advice. Follow the crypto rules that apply where you live, and only sell real value for real payment.
